Over the desk redo

I can't leave anything alone until I get it just the way I want it.  This is how I reworked the area over my desk.

Shutter Love

I bought this old shutter last year, but was never sure what to do with it.  My daughter suggested that I paint it black and then use it to display some old family photos.  This was her idea and I love the way it turned out.

Vintage typewriter

Check out my latest post to see my awesome Craigslist find.

Thank you Craigslist

As many of you know, I have been on the lookout for an antique typewriter.  I didn't care if it worked, I just wanted it for decorative purposes. I checked Craigslist Sunday and found someone offering a vintage Underwood typewriter.  I called to make arrangements to purchase it, but the owner said her granddaughter had just asked for it and it was no longer available.  She quickly said, "I have another old typewriter that I will sell cheap.  It is a Blickensdefer."  I asked her to email me a pic, which she quickly did.  In the meantime, I started researching this model.  I nearly had a stroke!  It was made in the mid 1800s and sells on eBay for $400-900.  Mine has the wooden case, which makes it more valuable.  Thanks Craigslist!  Did I mention I paid $30.00?

Vintage pie crust table

I bought this lovely lady in my first online auction.  She is a rare piece with exquisite detail on the edges of the crust and the base.  I really debated on what color to paint her.  Since I don't plan on keeping her, I finally decided on ASCP Duck Egg.  The varnish on the top was in pretty rough shape but you gotta luv the fact that ASCP is self-leveling.

Before pics.....check back later today to see the finished product.

Lost Desk

I loved the grey Governor's desk that was in the corner by my nightstand, but because the color was so similar to my wall color, it was lost. So I changed it out for the black desk and hung a French inspired distressed board over it.

Chalkboard Art

I saw this pattern on Pinterest and decided to give it a try.  The key to a clean looking project is to sharpen chalk before and during use. I also used a q-tip to smooth out rough edges.

Bedroom redo FINISHED!

Finally, I am done with my bedroom makeover.  I started painting the walls yesterday morning.  I finished painting around 7 pm.  Stupid me decided to start repainting the footboard and headboard of my bed.  Big mistake!  At midnight I finally went to sleep on the couch, because I still was not finished with the bed project.  I worked all day today until 7, with only a break to shower and go to church.  All the effort was worth it and I love the  makeover.

Plaque with French sayings of love and adoration

I know I said in an earlier post that I would not be posting about decorating, but I got bored.  As I redo my bedroom, I am decorating one area before I move to the next area.  This red desk was one of the main reasons I decided to go with my color palette.  I wanted something on top of the desk to tie it to the rest of the room's decor.  So I created this plaque.  I painted a board with flat black craft paint and then stenciled it with French sayings of love and adoration in an off-white color.  I finished it off by lightly sanding the entire board to give it a distressed look.  I think it is perfect!

Winter scenes

More winter wonderland

Winter Beauty

Today my blog isn't about decorating or painting furniture, but the majesty that only God can create with a snowstorm.
Early this morning, my sweet hubby and I got all bundled up and went for a drive through our winter wonderland.  Isn't it amazing how a cloak of snow can turn the most mundane scene into a masterpiece?  Some photos are of the scenery, while others are of homes in and around Floyd, VA.

More lanterns 2

Set of 3 with tea lights.  Simple yet elegant,

More lanterns

This lantern has such a natural look.  I found an old bird's nest in my grandkids' playhouse and decided to use it as my theme for this lantern.  I bleached some pine cones  by soaking them overnight in pure bleach and then baking them in a 250 degree oven for a couple of hours.  Then I added a few twigs to finish the look.

Lanterns

I love decorating with lanterns.  They are so versatile and can be customized to fit your unique decor.  In this lantern I used vintage items such as my Grandpaw's old wire rimmed glasses and pocket watch, my Granny's tapestry coin purse, and a book.

Burlap Pillows

I love burlap and I love pillows and I love French inspired stencils.  Put them altogether and viola you have gorgeous pillows.  These are my newest creations,

Chair love!

I was so blessed to find this awesome chair yesterday at TJ Maxx.  It had a small scratch on the leg and they gave me a discount.  The adorable little red bird didn't have a price on it, so they sold it to me for $3.99.  I love how it looks beside the little table.  I hope to have room painted bt this weekend.  As we are under a winter storm warning here in SW VA, maybe we will have a couple of snow days and then I might get it painted even earlier.  I think I am going to use the light grey color.  What do you think?

What color for bedroom?

Which color for my bedroom wall?

Quits and pillows

I started my bedroom redo with changing out my bedding.  I used two quilts; one that covers the entire bed and then the other at the foot of bed.  I went with a color scheme of black, grey, cream, and red.

Master bedroom redo

Welcome to my blog.  I love shabby chic furniture and have turned this passion into a little business.  In August of 2013, I opened an Etsy shop and have really done quite well selling my refurbished vintage or antique furniture.  Check out my Etsy shop called ChicColors.  Right now I am in the midst of my bedroom redo.   I have painted my French Provincial dresser and nightstand with Annie Sloan Old White and clear wax.  I do not like dark wax with ASCP Old White or Pure White. I found a vintage fan for $10 at a consignment shop, which I used atop the nightstand.  I still have to paint my headboard and footboard.
